Mary, Mother of Jesus,
you said yes to motherhood, not knowing what was ahead.
You labored to bring Jesus into this world, and rejoiced as his tiny body was tucked in close to yours.
You enjoyed his smile, his laughter, and the way he said your name out loud.
As a young boy you found him teaching his elders in the temple, as you walked the streets searching for him.
As he grew, you enjoyed his company at a wedding and he granted your request by filling the wine jars to the brim.
Your eyes met his often as you watched him love, teach, heal and comfort many.
But to you he was always your son, your beloved son.
It is painful to think that you watched him be innocently accused and humiliated.
You held his broken body in your arms as only a mother could.
Mary, you know the gift of motherhood.
The joy, the sorrow, the love, the fear, the trusting, the accepting, and the surrendering that comes with loving someone so much.

Guide me Mother Mary as I live out my call to motherhood, and lead me into the arms of your beloved son, Jesus.
